Isaac Diaz: First-Time Kissimmee National Rodeo Champion
RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo Saddle Bronc Champion Isaac Diaz is no stranger to the Sunshine State! Isaac was born in California and moved to Florida when he was six years old, spending most of his life here. His father was in the military, and his family was stationed in Florida for several years. He then moved to Texas after high school.
Not coming from a ranching or rodeo family, Isaac started being mentored by Mike Fletcher at eight years old. Mike took Isaac under his wing, teaching him to ride colts, teaching him to rope, and eventually, Mike taught him to ride bucking horses. In 2005, Isaac decided to buy his PRCA card and start rodeoing full-time. “What better way to make a living than getting on bucking horses. I look at rodeo as an opportunity.”
2018 marks the second time that Isaac qualified for the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo. “It’s always been a goal of mine to win the circuit finals.” Fortunately for Isaac, he hasn’t had too many injury setbacks, and he’s been riding very well. Currently, Isaac is ranked 3rd in the world standings, and he has no plans to slow down. He has his sights set on “becoming a world champion and to be a good dad.”
You don’t get to the top of the leader pack without working hard to get there. “Early in my career, I didn’t always take the physical aspect of rodeo serious. Working out is to help you physically, but it prepares you mentally also. Rodeo is 90% mental and 10% physical. Traveling with great traveling partners and people you are winning rodeos with can help you learn and grow. I have traveled with Taos Muncy for ten years. Look at the guys on top and mimic them. Don’t just look at the top 15, look at number one. You have to stay focused and work hard.”
Isaac shared his thoughts on becoming a champion. “Believe in yourself and be willing to put in the work. I work hard at my craft to get better.” A quote that Isaac shared he carries with him is “Success is not owned, it’s leased, and the rent is due daily.” It certainly paid off for Isaac in Kissimmee at the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo. Last week, he was on the road heading from Waco, TX to Seguin, TX and then back to Waco to make it to the short-round. With the Texas Circuit Finals Rodeo coming up in December, he is hoping to make a return visit to Kissimmee! “That is my hometown crowd. It was awesome winning in front of so many of my friends and family.”
He now resides with his wife Britnay Diaz in Texas. We are excited as they are expecting their first child, a baby girl in January, just in time for them to bring their new bundle of joy to Kissimmee! Needless to say, we think Isaac might have to win several more rodeos to spoil the new little miss!
If you haven’t attended the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo, we certainly hope that you’ll cheer on some of your favorite rodeo contestants and witness who will be crowned the 2019 national champions!
